NanoMorph Technology

The basic idea behind the NanoMorph technology is to convert drug substances with low water-solubility from a coarse crystalline state into amorphous nanoparticles.
How the process works:

A suspension of drug substance in solvent is fed into a chamber, where it is rapidly mixed with another solvent.

Immediately the drug substance suspension is converted into a true molecular solution. The admixture of an aqueous solution of a polymer induces precipitation of the drug substance. The polymer keeps the drug substance particles in their nanoparticulate state and prevents them from aggregation or growth. Water redispersable dry powders can be obtained from the nanosized dispersion by conventional methods, e.g. spray-drying.

Several patent applications have been filed to protect the NanoMorph technology, a GMP-qualified plant has been set up and clinical trial samples produced.

Colloidal Properties of NanoMorph Formulations

NanoMorph technology is based on a dissolution-precipitation concept that operates using water-miscible solvents for dissolution, followed by precipitation by aqueous polymer solutions.

These polymers stabilize drug substances in an amorphous, colloidal state and prevent them from agglomeration and recrystallization. The material stays amorphous even on redispersion in GI-fluids (e.g. at different pH`s). At the end of the NanoMorph process a powder which readily redisperses in cool water can be achieved from which the active substances are released as colloidal particles (sizes below 500 nm).

Bioavailability Properties of NanoMorph Formulations

NanoMorph formulations can be incorporated into the whole range of standard galenic application forms.

Compared to other innovative drug delivery systems, which are mainly designed for oral use, such as polymer/drug melt extrudates (please see Meltrex technology), NanoMorph formulations can extend the galenic spectrum since they can be administered additionally as i.v., i.m., topical or pulmonal application forms.
